Mission Statement

The Pemba Foundation works to develop lives and livelihoods on the island of Pemba, off the coast of Tanzania in East Africa. This large and crowded island contains several hundred villages engaged in subsistence farming, or fishing focused on its regionally-important coral reefs. Working with local individuals, communities and governments, the Foundation introduces innovative ways to raise incomes and living standards, and to encourage sustainable practices on land and sea.
